The state of Queensland offers so much for the car rental visitor to do and see that is worth taking time to visit some local landmarks. Top of the list should be the Whitsundays. Located between Townsville and Mackay the region is 900 kilometres (560 mi) north of the state capital of Brisbane. It is about a 10 hour drive north along the Bruce Highway from our Brisbane Car Hire branch.
Most tourist destinations are accessible with a hire Car. We believe Car Rentals are the best way to get around while you are on holiday. Even if you are here on business the area has much to do and see during your spare time.
Airlie Beach
Airlie Beach is a very popular holiday destination for tourists and locals alike. It is a well established holiday town and serves as the gateway to the Whitsundays. As you drive into town in your rental car the first sight you see is the breathtaking blue ocean. Airlie sits atop a peninsula which stretches into the Whitsunday Passage and thus provides the ideal starting point for a Whitsundays holiday. Take your Brisbane Hire Car and cruise along the coast to take in the full beauty of the area.
Bowen
Bowen is just 40 minutes drive in one of our Car Rentals north from Airlie Beach. It's a picture perfect seaside town that is home to eight sandy beaches. There is much to do and see including great reef, beach and estuary fishing. The region averages at least 8 hours of sun all throughout the year leading them to the claim to have Australia's best climate.
Proserpine
Proserpine is the administrative heart of the Whitsundays area. Driving through town in your Hire Car you will notice how green and lush the area appears. It has long been considered one of the most lush and fertile regions in this stretch of coast. For more than 200 years sugar cane and cattle farmers have been the dominant economic force in the region. From late June onwards, it is said that the glow of sugar cane fires make for a vibrant sky show. Start up your hire car and drive in closer for a better view of this fantastic show.
Heading north-west from Proserpine on Crystalbrook Road in your hire car you will find the Peter Faust Dam (or Lake Proserpine). The dam is stocked with a variety of fish species including barramundi and sleepy cod and anglers from far and wide descend on the dam to pit their wits against these freshwater game fish. There are also shaded picnic sites, barbecues, toilet facilities, swimming and water-skiing areas.
